Nordstrom New Arrivals - top picks!

OK it's one of my favorite times of the year - the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. But I couldn't help but take a peek at some of the new arrivals. Lot's of great stuff! I'm doing my best to still clear out my closet and fill it with items I really love and would get a lot of wear out of. Granted, that beaded dress I picked below wouldn't fall into that category...but sometimes you just need a show stopping dress! 

ED Ellen DeGeneres

'Langston' Ballet Flat (Women) $89.95

Different color options have different sayings, like love and smile. All the colors are really nice, and these would really bring something to just a basic outfit - my mom uniform of my jeans and Madewell whisper tee shirt.

This would be a great NYE dress! 

Lush

Cross Front Blouse $49

3 color options. I love the Lush tops, they are flowy without looking baggy. The extra detail here I'm a fan of, since I can't wear necklaces these days unless I want to be strangled by it when my baby pulls on it. 

Caslon

Shirred V-Neck Tee (Regular & Petite) $29

This comes in a few colors - I already grabbed 2 (red and blue). Shirred shirts are flattering on just about everyone, this is a great staple item to have! 

Leith

Ruched Body-Con Tank Dress $56

I think this style looks great on a lot of people. I have a few dresses in this style, and I'm a size large with a body that screams "I've had two kids!". Throw on a jean jacket and some booties are you are good to go for a more casual look. Make it work for date night with a great statement necklace and some heels.  

BB Dakota

Laverne Faux Leather Jacket $99

If you haven't grabbed a faux leather jacket by now, the bone color is a great look to carry you into spring. I love how it adds to just a basic black top and gray jeans and makes them look fashionable!

Trunk Club - Trunk #5 Reveal

Trunk #5 is here! This one was a little different, I sent my stylist my wishlist from Nordstrom, and she filled in the blanks with her own picks. I asked for some color and texture as well. I have to say, this was a good lesson in stylist knows best! My picks were pretty much all misses. In fact, a lot of these items I wanted to keep, but they were too similar to things I had in my closet, even though I liked the stylists pick better. So lesson learned to just wait and see
what I am sent instead of shopping on my own!

Let's start with a sneak peek into my box, along with the price sheet. 

My first look is the Halogen Cowl Neck Sweater dress ($79) , Treasure&Bond Plaid Poncho ($79) and the Kate Spade reversible leather belt ($58):

Verdict: Keeping the poncho and the belt. These were actually on my wishlist, the belt specifically, and another similar poncho. The dress was nice, heavy and comfy, but as you can see in the picture on the right where I'm styling the poncho, I have a maroon dress already. The poncho looks great over my Trouve layering tee with some skinny jeans as well as over a cotton dress. 

Next up is the Denison Stripe Trapeze Dress ($100) and the Calson Knit Tunic ($59).

Verdict: Return both. I was way to tall to wear the dress as a dress and it looked frumpy over some denim leggings. The Calson tunic was a pick of mine but I didn't like how the pockets laid on my thighs, brought too much attention to that area. 

One of my favorite looks was the Trouve Stretch Crepe Moto Jacket ($129) and the V-Neck Mixed Media Top by Pleione ($48). 

Verdict: UGHHH first world problems, I have a super similar look in my closet. I love how structured this jacket is. I received a similar top in my last trunk, also black and white so even though this is a great look it's going back. I told my stylist I am so sad and from now on I wait and buy through her! This jacket is way better than the one in my closet but I am stuck with that one. 

Next up is the sweater dresses from Madewell ($118) and Halogen ($89).  

Verdict: Nope, nope, nope. The color on the dress is awful with my skin tone. It had flared sleeves and ribbing and overall was a dated look in my opinion. The blue dress was ok, but had a pretty deep v-neck. Even my necklace that usually hangs low barely makes it below the v-neck. This straight cut isn't a great look for me anyway with my c-section belly. 

Last look is this Knit Cowl Tunic by Calson (49.90 - sale!) 

Verdict: Sending back. This was just ok on me, I'm tall and the pockets hit a little high on me. Doesn't look like a tunic at all on me, but if you are shorter it would likely fall nicely on you. I liked the print on this though!

Finally, these are items with no photos I received. BLANKNYC Faux Moto Jacket ($98), Asher Cashmere Sweater ($288), Sorel Waterproof boot ($68.95 - sale!).

Verdict: The jacket I received in a different color in my last trunk. It's too stiff for me. The sweater I didn't even try on because at that price I didn't want to fall in love. The boots were a pick of mine, but fit so odd around the ankles. All going back.

Hot Toy List for 2016!

Here's a list of some Toys I think will be a hit for the 2016 holiday season. I like a lot of toys that have a broad age range so Santa can bring one for the kids to share. Check out my pics below! Prices were current at time of post, but as usual, Amazon and internet pricing can change quickly!

Fisher Price Think and Code Caterpillar $36.99 on Amazon (reg $49.99). Recommended for 36m-8 years, I love that if you have a bunch of little kids in the house they can all play with this toy. I have seen some sales on this and I've already got one stashed away for Christmas.

Code-A-Pillar features 9 easy-to-connect segments that preschoolers can arrange and rearrange to "tell" the toy how to move: forward, left, right, wiggle, dance or even wait for a couple seconds before moving again. All things Paw Patrol. Grab the paw patroller for a cheaper rate with the frustration free packaging. Good for ages 3-8. This show is a huge hit with little ones and some accessories and items are already hard to find and if you do locate them, it's at a huge mark up. If you are on the hunt for Paw Patrol toys this year, buy them early!

Exploding Kittens $19.99 (20% off) and a funny game for the older kids and even adults! I played this at a party. It's easy to pick up and 2-5 players can play. If you add a second deck, it can be a real party game for up to 9 players.

VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch $44.99. Ages 4 to 9, interactive kids watches features 3 fun activities, 5 games, 3 action challenges and a motion sensor. Once again I like that Santa can bring the same gift to kids of various age groups.

 

 

Fur Real Friends Torch, My Blazing Dragon $58.89, save 28%. Pet responds to 50+ motion and sound combinations. Good for ages 4 and up. Touch his nose for fun responses! I saw a video of this in action and it's pretty cute!

Nerf N-Strike Elite Hyperfire Blaster $31.99, save 31%. Fires darts up to 90 feet. Comes with 25 darts. Great for 8-12 years old.

LEGO Friends 41130 Amusement Park Roller Coaster Building Kit $79.96, 20% off. The push-along roller coaster features 4 carriages (each sitting a mini-doll), functioning light brick, entrance area with opening safety barrier, control panel with levers, camera and a long track with various obstacles along the ride. Includes 4 mini dolls. Ages 8-13. 

Num Noms Lipgloss Truck Craft Kit $24.88, 25% off. This kit allows you to make your own lip gloss! Good for all the girls ages 3-15! Little and big sister can get the same thing, no fighting!.

 

 Fisher-Price Dance & Move BeatBelle $24.83, 38% off. We have the BeatBo and it's a huge hit for my baby and preschooler. They can play it together. This is a new girly version, that is cheaper, but same fatures as the BeatBo. Really great toy, my son has been playing with it since he was 4 months and it still keeps his attention as he gets closer to 1.
